Transforming History: The Refurbishment of the Midland Bank Headquarters

An Architectural Gem Reimagined

The comprehensive refurbishment of the Grade I-listed former Midland Bank headquarters stands as a testament to our commitment to preserving architectural heritage while introducing modern luxury.

Originally designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1929, this historic building has now been transformed into The Ned, a unique hotel and Soho House members club. The renovation seamlessly blends the intricate details of early 20th-century architecture with contemporary amenities, creating a distinctive hospitality destination.

Revitalizing a Landmark

The project introduced a delicate balance between honoring the building’s original design and accommodating modern needs. With 252 guest rooms, nine restaurants, and luxurious facilities such as two swimming pools and a health spa,

The Ned offers an unforgettable experience. Significant structural interventions were made, including the construction of a new vertical circulation core and the addition of new floors, all while ensuring the preservation of the iconic steel frame structure.

Heritage Meets Luxury

Preserving the Midland Bank’s historical legacy was paramount during the refurbishment. Key features, such as 92 green verdite marble columns and original walnut banking tables, were meticulously restored, ensuring that the character of the building remained intact.

The transformation of the original bank vault into The Vault Bar and Lounge exemplifies this unique merging of history and modern luxury, providing an ambiance unlike any other.
